Our favourite beach in Canggu is, hands down, Berawa Beach. Year-round top performing surfing conditions, epic sunsets, vibrant party scene, and amazing food.
Berawa is a failproof destination in Bali to plan a vacation with your partner, kids, or on your own. In our complete guide, you will find the best things to do, places to stay and eat around the beach.
Summary On Berawa Beach
- Berawa beach, aka Pantai Berawa in Indonesian, is located in Canggu and is often called Canggu beach (although there isn’t technically a Canggu beach; it is just a collective name for a bunch of beaches in the area).
- It is the hub for parties, good food, and surfing.
- The best time to go to Berawa Beach is sunset (4 to 6 PM) or early morning (before 9 AM) for surfing, walking, and fewer crowds.
Where Is Berawa Beach, Bali?

Berawa Beach is located in the Canggu area along the Bali South Coast, at the very end of Pantai Berawa street (Berawa Beach Road), right in front of the FINNS beach club.
It is just 20 minutes from Petitenget or Seminyak, and 2 hours from Kuta or the airport.
Address: Jalan Pantai Berawa, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia
How To Get To Berawa Beach

You can reach Berawa beach on foot, by bike, or by car.
- Walking. If you’re staying along Berawa Road (Jl Pantai Berawa), it is pretty quick and easy to simply walk to the beach.
- Scooter. Bring your international driving license from your home country and zoom around on your rental bike. The island is very accessible for bikes, and it is generally the best transportation method here as long as you have proper paperwork and can actually drive without putting yourself or others in danger.
- Private car. While cars are comfy, during peak hours, the Canggu shortcut and some parts of Berawa become overwhelmed by traffic, not to mention scarce parking by the beach. Yes, there is a huge field used as parking now, but it is still a challenge to get in and out, especially around sunset.
From the international airport or Kuta, the ride can be pretty long during peak hours, about 2-3 hours, but if heading to Berawa Beach from Seminyak, you will get there in about 30-40 minutes.
When’s The Best Time To Visit Berawa Beach?

Bali has two distinct seasons: rainy season (November to March) and dry season (April to October). Both seasons are amazing to visit Berawa Beach, as even during the wettest month of the year (January), Berawa still gets a full 8 hours of sunshine and fewer people!
Peak season for surfing and tourism falls on the summer months from June to August (dry season) as the weather is cooler, less humid, and super sunny. But it is also the time when most people fly to Bali, making this time the most expensive as well.
You will still get good surfing conditions, amazing weather and plenty of sunshine to go on day trips in March, April, May, September, and October, aka shoulder seasons.
Any time of the day is great to visit Berawa beach:
- Early morning is best for you-time, walking, and surfing.
- Right before sunset is the quiet time when you can enjoy a coconut or cocktail and still surf and take plenty of photos with fewer tourists at the beach. We recommend weekdays over weekends to beat the crowds.
- Evenings and sunset hours, especially over the weekend, are the busiest hours at Berawa Beach. To have the best views, come early or book a bed at FINNS beach club.
Is There An Entrance Fee For Berawa Beach?

No, Berawa beach is free to visit, but if you’re coming by bike or car, you will need to pay the parking fees of about 4,000-5,000 IDR (less than 1 AUD).
Make sure to ask for a parking ticket and keep it. When you’re leaving the beach and can’t show it, you may be asked to pay again.
What To Expect At Berawa Beach, Bali
At Berawa, you can expect some of the most amazing sunsets with Indian Ocean views over a black sand beach.
It is a vibrant, busy beach with clean water and sand, and lots of surfers catching waves.
The black sand gets really hot, and there isn’t much shade at the beach, so bring your sunscreen, hat, and don’t leave your flip flops at the bike/car.
What To Do At Berawa Beach & Around
Chill Or Party @ FINNS Beach Club

FINNS is a massive adults-only beach club that doubles as a party restaurant, and it is the centre of the nightlife in Canggu.
Amazing sunsets, resident and international DJs, fireworks, and lit dance floor year-round!
You can easily spend the whole day sipping cocktails in one of the pools, take part in Friday beach clean-ups, shop at their boutique, try food from different parts of the world from one of the 7 kitchens on site, swim in the pools, meet new friends, and so on.
If you want to simply relax by the pool under the swaying palm trees, come in the first half of the day, come closer to sunset and stay till late night for a party vibe, shows, and music.
Try Surfing

Berawa is a beach break with some reefy parts, and it is both beginner-friendly and one of the most challenging breaks in the South, all depending on the weather and swell conditions.
However, even if you are not an advanced surfer, there are dozens of surf schools and private coaches ready to show you a couple of tricks and push you on your very first wave. When taking classes, make sure to first learn about rules in the water and etiquette to not get in the way of other surfers.
Berawa and Canggu are also known for having multiple surf shops to purchase gear and boards from local and international shapers, including some unique offers like wooden surfboards!
The early part of the day with lower tides during the dry season, is the best time to surf Berawa. Many surfers also love sunset sessions here.
Long Walks & Sunbathing

Berawa beach is often the spot for a romantic walk, a date, or catching up with friends in the evening.
Mornings are for people doing yoga, walking puppies, and surfers. You can get a bean bag under an umbrella and hang out at the beach all day long. If you’re travelling with kids, they will love it!
You can walk quite a good distance in either direction, and it will still be pretty and clean. On the southern end, there is a bridge and a natural lagoon for nice sunset photos, too.
During the rainy season, your walks may be a bit limited as there are a few channels breaking up the beach, and when there is heavy rain up north, the water rushes down into the sea, and it may be challenging to cross that.
If you are looking to get tanned, keep in mind the extreme UV index in Bali, and sunbathe during “safe” hours, before 10-11 AM and a bit around 4 PM.
You will find some locals renting out umbrellas, chairs and bean bags, but you can also set up shop with your own towel anywhere on the beach.
