20 Best Restaurants In Legian: Beach Town Dining Bliss

Legian often gets overlooked next to the big city vibes of Kuta, the upmarket neighbourhood of Seminyak and Canggu’s cosmopolitan hub. Yet, it has one of the best dining scenes in Bali.

In fact, there are so many restaurants in this area that you could easily eat for months without ever eating in the same place twice.

So, how do you choose where to go when there’s this much on offer? Well, this list, of course, our 20 top dining destinations in Legian, makes it easy to find amazing places to eat.

Rosemary Restaurant & Bar

Image source: Rosemary Restaurant & Bar Google Business

Rosemary’s does a combination of International and Indonesian dishes, as many restaurants in Legian do.

They’ve recently refocused their menu and narrowed the range of options on hand, and we think that their food tastes better for it.

Sit out on the terrace and enjoy one of the nicest communal vibes that we’ve found in Legian.

You know you’re in for a good time, though, as when you arrive, you will be greeted by Eddy, who will show you around before you take your seat.

Koko Bar & Restaurant

Image source: Koko Bar & Restaurant Google Business

This unpretentious family-run cafe offers decent food all day long in a digital nomad-friendly environment with fast Wi-Fi.

One thing we love about the staff here is that they never forget a face or an order, so when you go back (and you will), they will know how you take your coffee without asking!

We enjoyed their carbonara pizza, which was one of the cheapest pizzas we’ve had in Bali and yet, still very tasty.

Mostly, though, we tend to go here for breakfast because the egg and bacon muffins put the sort of thing you get at McD’s to shame (as they should).

Hitana Restaurant @ Bali Niksoma

Image source: Hitana Restaurant Google Business

This stunning and stylish restaurant sits right on the beach, and some say it offers the best food and service on the waterfront strip here.

We tried the tempura vegetables with pickled ginger and wasabi and were blown away by the taste.

Their grilled prawn salad with a touch of soy (gluten-free options are available) was really good too.

Most of all, it’s a really nice place to sit and do some people-watching while indulging in a daiquiri or two.

Yamma Yaa

Image source: Yamma Yaa Google Business

This is a decent representative of the Italian Restaurants in Legian; however, we do wish they’d stop people from smoking in the dining room.

They kick things off nicely with some complimentary bruschetta, and we wish other restaurants would follow their lead on this.

Their homemade fresh pasta was very good, and the Robe pizza was unusual and very tasty, indeed.

Service here is quick and efficient, and even if it’s busy, you shouldn’t find yourself waiting very long for your sustenance.

Bella Italia Legian

Image source: Bella Italia Legian Google Business

Bella Italia is one of the best restaurants in Legian, if not the best restaurant in Legian for calzone-style pizzas.

In fact, we’d put it on a par with anything we’ve eaten in Italy!

We were pleased to find that they have a non-smoking indoor section, which made eating a pleasant experience.

Their gluten-free options include gluten-free pasta, which ought to make celiacs very happy (they also do gluten-free pizzas).

Our only minor complaint is that the servers sometimes seem a little disinterested in their guests.

Mozzarella Restaurant & Bar @ The Magani Hotel

Image source: Mozzarella Restaurant & Bar Google Business

This is the first and original Mozzarella Restaurant of the two Mozzarella Restaurants in Legian, and it’s still one of the icons of the local environment.

There is, as you’d probably guessed from the name, an emphasis on Italia,n but they also do more general European dishes and Indonesian dishes too.

The location is awesome with a lovely view of the beach, and the interior is pleasantly decorated and welcoming.

We had their nasi goreng and were very happy with it. We were even happier with the 2-for-1 cocktail promotions.

Warung Kolega

They do a lovely mix of Asian food at this warung, and you can find pretty much everything from crispy duck to nasi goreng.

We went with the rendang beef, and it was very good indeed. Our vegan friends opted for the tempeh dishes and said they were very impressed.

We like the simple and homely environment too, which suits the food being served here; not everywhere needs to be Instagram-worthy to be worth visiting.

It’s also very good value for money, but be warned, they make everything at the start of the lunch shift and when it’s gone… It’s gone. Get there early for the best choice.

Uncle Norm’s Bar & Bistro

Image source: Uncle Norm’s Bar & Bistro Google Business

Uncle Norm’s is friendly and welcoming and a ton of fun.

They have live music most evenings and may solicit contributions to the entertainment from the guests, so be warned – you may be dragged on stage to sing if you want to be.

Try the black pepper beef or the prawn pad thai, and you won’t be disappointed, though the portions could be just a little bigger, we think

This could easily become your favourite place for an icy cold beer at the end of a long day in Legian.

They serve great food at a good price in a comfortable environment, and you can’t ask for much more than that, can you?

La Monde Restaurant

There are actually two of these restaurants in Legian, and they’re both opposite each other on Jl. Padma Utara.

If you want something a bit pricey and upmarket, you won’t find it here; this is just honest food for a very down-to-earth price.

We can recommend coming for breakfast, and their coffee is very good, indeed.

However, the 2-for-1 happy hour on cocktails is what brings most people back to La Monde again and again.

Kuali Restaurant

Image source: Kuali Restaurant Google Business

Kuali is on the ground floor of a small building near the beach, and it specialises in local and Asian food.

It’s very vegetarian-friendly, but there aren’t really any vegan options, which is a bit of a shame.

We were very impressed by the quick service here, and if you need somewhere in Legian, Bali that can cater to a large group, Kuali will be a great place to go.

Their spring rolls were very good, and we enjoyed the pork ribs that we had, too. It’s a nice place with a pleasant vibe, and we’re looking forward to our next meal here.

Sang Ria Grill Bali

Image source: Sang Ria Grill Bali Google Business

This BBQ restaurant is the first place we’ve ever been to with Instagram-worthy BBQ dishes! Seriously, they come off the grill, hit the plate and look amazing!

The ribs here are very, very good, and the mango and BBQ shrimp are very good, indeed.

You’re not limited to ordering from the admittedly short menu in this place either – you can also order Thai food from Warung Asia at the same time, as they share premises.

Romeos Bar & Grillery @ Ossotel

Romeos Bar & Grillery Google Business

Romeos is an elegant American-style grill, and the food is very good. The buy-one-get-one-free happy hour is very popular here for obvious reasons.

We had the salt & pepper calamari and were very impressed with how soft the squid was, but the barramundi fillet was a little smaller than we were expecting, though it tasted great.

The wait staff here are very happy to help customise dishes for any special dietary requirements you may have.

Bande Nere Pizza

Image source: Bande Nere Pizza Google Business

This is very much an Italian-style pizza place, and it’s quite classy too, so we’d recommend dressing up a little before you go.

They often have a Thursday night buy-one-get-one-free on the pizzas promotion, which can make it even better value for money to eat here.

Try the prosciutto and rocket pizza, which does a great job of enhancing the salty taste of the ham with some of that fiery herb.

Ours Bar & Restaurant

Image source: Ours Bar & Restaurant Google Business

It’s not the prettiest of restaurants in Legian, and some might even call it plain or drab, but we don’t eat the wallpaper, and the food is worth coming for.

We found the service to be very attentive, and there’s definitely no rush to push you through and back out the door to get someone else in, which can happen in this busy beach town.

The steaks were excellent and cooked to perfection, which is why we’ll go back again in the future.

Sugar Rays Bar & Restaurant

Image source: Sugar Rays Bar & Restaurant Google Business

Cold beers and a range of international bar food make Sugar Rays one of the best restaurants in Legian in our book.

There’s nothing fussy about this place at all, it does what it does very well and their Tom Yum Goong is as good as anywhere in Thailand.

The cocktails drop in price during happy hour to make them the cheapest in Bali, too!

Sammy’s

Sammy’s is a local bar that focuses its efforts on tasty and low-cost bar food with an Indonesian theme.

It’s a great place to dine with children and there’s a casual and laid-back vibe to the place that makes it very fun to be in.

Their nasi goreng is very good but be careful when you ask for chili here, it’s full-on and might be a bit much for those who like their spicy dishes a little more refined.

Garlic Lane Restaurant

Image source: Garlic Lane Restaurant Google Business

Garlic Lane used to be a small bar but over the years it’s grown into a much larger restaurant and now offers as many dinner options as it does drinks.

The emphasis here is on casual dining and it’s a lovely place to go if you’re a solo traveller as its staff are welcoming and kind.

Instagrammers in search of something unusual may well appreciate the eclectic decor and interior design too.

Swassdeekka Thai Restaurant & Bar

Image source: Swassdeekka Thai Restaurant & Bar Google Business

This vegan and vegetarian-friendly Thai restaurant does some of the most authentic Thai food in Bali.

Try the green mango salad, which we all agreed was the highlight of the menu here, and also their chilli shrimp, which are delightfully sweet and fiery.

We like that you get your own private hut to eat in, that’s a lovely touch.

Chapter 2 Restaurant & Bar

Image source: Chapter 2 Restaurant & Bar Google Business

Chapter 2 has always been about solid food and cheap drinks, and there’s a great atmosphere inside that is welcoming and upbeat.

The menu is varied, but there is an emphasis on Australian food, and that’s never a bad thing.

They have live music here most days, and it’s one of the most popular restaurants in Legian for it.

ONE O Restaurant (Bondi Bali)

Image source: ONE O Restaurant Google Business

This place has recently rebranded as Bondi Bali, but its internet presence is still very much focused on ONE O.

It’s a nice place for an affordable and hearty breakfast, and the dinner service is very good too.

Sadly, there’s not much of a view from this restaurant; you’re just watching people go by on the street.
